Ingredients

  • 34 Vidalia sweet onions (sliced into thick rounds)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp salt (to enhance flavor)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (for savory seasoning)
  • 1/2 tsp oregano (for a touch of herb flavor)
  • 1 cup Italian blend cheese, finely shredded (a mix of mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, finely shredded (for a sharp cheesy flavor)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, finely shredded (adds extra umami and saltiness)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice the onions into thick rounds and place them in a 9×13 baking dish.
  • Melt the butter and pour it over the onions. Season with salt, garlic powder, and oregano.
  • Top the onions with Italian blend cheese, cheddar cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until the cheese is golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • Use Vidalia onions for the best sweetness.
  • Grating your own cheese gives a creamier texture.
  • To get a golden top, broil for the last 2-3 minutes.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
